Nationals 2024 - Day 3 Wrap Up

Day 3 was another big one for Carlile with 22 races across the heats session. What has been impressive to see is the variety of events that Carlile swimmers are racing. Today's events included 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 200m freestyle, 50m breaststroke, 200m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 400m freestyle, and 200m freestyle!

Swim of the Day...

Swim of the day goes to Kaitlin Barry claiming a silver medal in the girls 13 years 100m backstroke. Kaitlin's swim was a pb time of 1.06.11 and her second medal for the meet. It was great to see Kaitlin go into the final ranked 6th and finish the race second. What was even more impressive was Kaitlin had the fastest second 50m split out of the whole field, showing how well she executed her race plan. Well done Kaitlin!

Carlile also had two girls make it through to the B final in the girls 13 years 100m backstroke. Emma Ng continued her successful few days of racing with another pb swim, finishing 16th in a time of 1.10.61. Jessica Persson finished 18th in a time of 1.11.09, swimming under her entry time for the second time today. Great racing girls!

Fly Finals cont...

Taj Kingston got to step up and swim his first race of the meet, qualifying in lane 4 for the B final in the boys 15 years 100m butterfly. Taj's heat swim was a massive 1.87 second pb. He then went on to take another 0.45 seconds off in the final. Taj's pb time of 58.16 saw him finish 9th overall. Taj also showed control and confidence turning 9th at the 50m mark, and swimming over his competitors to finish 1st in his race. Congratulations Taj.

In the boy's 16 years 200m butterfly, William Mackay continued to show form, dropping 2.15 seconds off his pb across heats and finals. Will's time of 2.05.05 placed him 4th. It was great to see Will progress significantly from 8th in this event in 2023, to 4th in 2024. Keep it up Will.

Fast Freestyle

Maisie Langley was back for her second final of the meet in the girls 13 years 400m freestyle. Maisie moved through the pack in her heat, making a significant move in the third 100. This paid off for her, seeing her qualify for the night swim. Maisie went into this event ranked 22nd, and finished 9th in a PB time of 4.40.02. Great job Maisie.

In the girls 14 years 200m Freestyle Isobel Mulcahy qualified through to the finals. Issy swam a tough race, with the girls taking it out very fast. Issy swam two pb's for this event in one day, finishing 6th overall in a time of 2.08.42. Congratulations Issy. Carlile also had two other girls swim this event in the heats, making it 3 from 3 pb's for the day. Well done to Maya Ostapenko and Lexie Cook as well.

To round out the night, Carlile's girls 13-17 years 4x100 freestyle relay team finished 5th. The girls went into the race ranked 8th, but with all girls stepping up for their team, they dropped 2.29 seconds of their entry time to finish 5th. It was an exciting finish with just 0.71 between 3rd and 5th. The team consisting of Olivia Wunsch (54.25), Kaitlin Barry (59.35), Maya Ostapenko (59.50) and Zannah Dixon (58.81) should be very proud of their efforts.

Day 3 roundup...

Special mention to Lexie Cook who raced 3 events today, with all 3 being pb's. She started out the day with the girls 14 years 100m butterfly, then the 50m breastroke and finished up with the 200m freestyle. An incredible effort in what was a very hot but beautiful day on the GC. Special mention also goes to Jessica Persson who improved her ranking in the girls 13 years 400m freestyle, going into the event ranked 26th and finishing 10th.
