Nationals 2024 - Day 5 Wrap Up

Day 5 saw Carlile swim another 23 races! It was great to see swimmers still getting up and giving it their all with 13 pb swims for the day. There were 5 swimmers who progressed to finals and 2 relay swims.

Swim of the Day...

Swim of the day goes to Ruben Langley. Ruben tied for 11th place in the boys 16 years 400m Freestyle in a time of 4.11.09. In this case the boys elected to compete in a swim off for first reserve, at the end of the heats session, meaning they were racing at 3.00pm in the afternoon. The coaching team were most impressed with Ruben's attitude towards going head to head and rising to the occasion. Ruben came away with the win in a new pb time of 4.09.48 which was a 1.10 second pb. Great stuff Ruben.

Fast Finalists...

Zannah Dixon made her first final for the meet in the girls 17 years 100m backstroke. It was great to see Zannah get up and swim faster than her heat swim and also improve her ranking. Zannah's time of 1.06.14 placed her 8th. Well done Zannah.

In another exciting final for Kaitlin Barry, saw her win her first gold medal of the meet. Her time of 2.07.10 was a 1.65 second improvement. Very similar to previous races, Kaitlin finished strongest in the final stages of the race coming home in 31.00. Great job Kaitlin.

Will Mackay swam a 1.66 second pb in the boys 400m freestyle, narrowly missing the bronze medal. Will showed great composure as the rest of the field took it out very fast. Turning 10th at the 100m mark, he slowly made his way through the field across the next 300m. It was very impressive to watch. Good racing Will.

More Medleys...

In the girls 14 years 400m IM Carlile had another race with multiple swimmers in the final. Isobel Mulcahy swam herself to the bronze medal in a new pb time of 5.02.43, whilst Maya Ostapenko came 4th in a time of 5.03.79. Both girls swam great pb's and qualified for the Olympic Trials in this event. Both girls still have another couple of big events to come over the next 2 days. Keep it up Issy and Maya.
