Michelle Thomas

Michelle has been coaching since 1989 and has worked with all levels of swimmers throughout her coaching career.  Michelle has worked for Carlile Swimming for the past seven years at the Narrabeen site, where she plays an important role developing and preparing swimmers as the coach of the Age Performance Squad.  Michelle consistently has swimmers selected on State Junior and Emerging Athlete squads along with preparing multiple National Age medallists and National Open level qualifiers. 

Michelle is a strong advocate for continued professional development, as a silver license coach Michelle has also completed an Associate Diploma in Applied Science – Sports coaching, specialising in swimming and a Graduate Diploma in Sports Coaching while working at the Australian Institute of Sport.  More recently Michelle was awarded a Women Leaders in Sport individual grant by the Australian Sports Commission which she utilised to take part in a Resilient Leadership program though the Melbourne University School of Business. 

Ryosuke Kito

Ryosuke Kito was born in Japan and is a university graduate in Information Technology. Ryo has worked for Carlile Swimming since moving to Australia in 2000.  Ryo is an experienced teacher and coach having worked across the entire Carlile Swimming learn to swim and squad program.  Ryo has been coaching fulltime with Carlile since 2005, working with the Junior, Age and National Performance squads.  

Ryo holds an astca Silver License, along with the Open Water and Coaching Swimmers with a Disability coaching accreditations.  Ryo was awarded the AUSTSWIM “Rookie Swimming Teacher of the Year” in 2004 and received ASCTA “JX Gold Coach of the year award” in 2009.  Ryo has coached numerous swimmers onto Swimming NSW Junior Squads since 2008.

Nao Shiono

Nao moved to  Sydney from Japan, and shortly thereafter began work with Carlile Swimming at the Killarney Heights Swim School.   Nao grew up in Tokyo, where he swum and trained as an Individual Medley, Butterfly and Freestyle swimmer competing up to National Japanese Open level competition.  

Nao coaches the Sharks and Superfish classes within the swim school at Killarney Heights, along with the Performance Transition squads where he focuses on developing the next generation of talented swimmers and introduce them to the competitive program.  Nao holds an ascta Bronze License and was awarded the Carlile Swimming  Killarney Heights employee of the year in 2012

Toby Condon

Toby first started coaching in 1997 assisting Cherrybrook Carlile Club Patron, Ursula Carlile at the Ryde Aquatic Centre.  Toby moved on to become Ryde Carlile Swimming Club Head Coach in 2003 - 2015. Toby brings a wealth of experience to Cherrybrook, he is experienced at developing athletes at all levels and has a passion for working with highly skilled young athletes.

Toby has produced swimmers that have represented Australia on both senior and junior teams, including a Commonwealth record holder (2013), Commonwealth Games finalist (2014), Junior Pan Pacific Games medalists (2012 & 2014),  NSWIS scholarship, Emerging Talent Squads and NSW Age Development Squads, New South Wales State Teams.  Toby is a Silver License Coach and has a Bachelor Degree in Property Studies (UTS) and a Diploma in Project Management. 

Misha Payne

Misha has achieved outstanding results at all levels of representation from Metropolitan, New South Wales and National Championships, developing both age and open athletes.  Misha has had swimmers selected on various national teams including Junior Pan Pacific Championships, World Junior Championships and the Oceania Championships.   Misha is a regular contributor at State and National Emerging Talent and Talent Identification Squads.

Misha is passionate about swimming and helping his athletes learn to drive the best out of themselves through lessons and education both in and out of the pool.  Misha is motivated to help educate and challenge his peers, through his roles as Mentor Coach for the SNSW Junior Sharks program in 2016, presenting at various ASCTA NSW conferences, and his service as a ASCTA NSW Director.

Michael Gale

Michael joined Carlile late 1999 starting with the Learn to Swim Program. While moving up through the levels, Michael gained Austswim qualification then went on to obtaining the Bronze Coaching license. Michael has had a long association with swimming being a Life Member of the Avalon/ Bilgola Amateur Swimming club as well as being the Northern Beaches District Supervisor in the NSW Swim Safe Program for 4 years.

Michael is  a member of ASCTA and is First Aid Qualified. Michael has attended numerous National and State conferences and meets and has worked exclusively with our Competitive Programs for a number of years. Michael works along side the coaching staff in the delivery of the Open, National and Age Performance squads as well as working with ourJunior Performance Squad. He is extremely passionate and results orientated and is an integral part of the Carlile coaching team.

Andrew Taufer

Andrew first joined Carlile Swimming in 2002 and has been a competitive coach since 2003. Andrew is a Silver License accredited coach with a certificate III and IV in fitness and is a registered personal trainer.

Andrew has produced multiple national representatives and medalists and has placed swimmers on a number of junior Australian Teams.

Dr Gina Sacilotto PhD

Gina completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise and Sport Science) and a Bachelor of Health Science (Honours) from Western Sydney University in 2010 and 2011, respectively. Later, Gina completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Health in 2014 from the University of Canberra and the Australian Institute of Sport. Gina's Honours and Doctorate theses were based around skill acquisition and hydrodynamic forces in competitive swimming. Gina has worked both within the NSW Institute of Sport and the Australian Institute of Sport since 2007.

Gina has been teaching and coaching swimming since 2005 and currently holds a Bronze Licence.

Caroline Woods

While being new to the coaching scene, Caroline has worked for Carlile for almost a decade as a teacher and instructor, and has been involved in swimming since she was 8 years old.

Caroline was a member of the Australian Swim Team at the 2000 Olympics where she competed in the 200m breaststroke.  Caroline brings those experiences and love of swimming under the guidance of great coaches, including 4 years training at the Australian Institute of Sport to her coaching.  Caroline understands the passion required to be a great coach and how to help swimmers become their best.  

Brendan Micallef

Brendan joins the Ryde coaching team having coached previously at Sydney University as both an Assistant Coach and Head coach of both the club and varsity teams. Brendan holds an ASCTA silver license and comes to Carlile with not only a highly credentialed coaching background including coaching swimmers to World Cup competition in the 2017-18 season, but a history of competitive success himself as a swimmer and medallist at National Age level competition, gaining selection on Australian Junior teams and competing at National Open championships.

While studying at Sydney University as an Elite Athlete Scholarship holder, Brendan was awarded the Pierre de Coubertin Award for Academic Excellence and Sporting Prowess and was also a recipient of Sydney University Blues award.

Jodi Armstrong

Jodi has been involved with Carlile since 8 years of age as a student, National level athlete and now coach. She has developed resilience and determination while training for the 5km Open Water and 200m Butterfly events.

Jodi began coaching at Carlile Swimming Cherrybrook in 2016 and coaches Sharks, the Performance Transition and Junior Performance Squads. Jodi holds an ASCTA bronze license and aims to provide a fun and successful environment where young athletes can grow and fall in love with the sport - a champions environment.
